Roof decoration of Hong San Si Temple
We didn't do a whole lot really. Just slept in, relaxed and ate. It rained a lot too. Lunch was pretty bloody good (REAL TEH TARIK) but dinner wasn't.
A beach in Bako National Park
Fingers crossed the weather will continue to be good. It didn't really rain during the day yesterday and I was hoping this would continue because we were finally headed to Bako National Park, one of the main National Parks of Borneo. Interestingly, it faces the South China Sea.
Bubbles are yummy
So, we haven't seen any Orangutans yet. I had really wanted to see one and knew where we would be guaranteed to see one but wasn't entirely sure we should go.
Premier 101 Food Centre
It was raining a lot in the morning so we decided to stay in. Will the rest of our stay here in Borneo be like this? :(
The original plan was to go and hopefully see some Orangutans in the wild-ish at Semenggoh Nature Reserve, which is where they rehabilitate injured or orphaned Orangutans and reintroduce them back into the wild. The staff at Semenggoh leave out fruit twice a day for the Orangutans if they wish to come back for a free feed.
I <3 Kuching street art
Kuching means ‘cat’ in Malay. But we weren't here for the cats (or dogs, for that matter) - Kuching was to be our base to exploring Borneo. I was pretty excited to go to Borneo to see an orangutan and hit up some national parks.
Kueh from Chong Wen Ge Cafe
We had another day in Singapore but I can't say we did a whole lot. Met up with a mate and did some shopping and that was it, really. You'll notice the only pics below are of food ;)
Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay
We'd joked that Singapore was the last time we'd see a high standard of living and that it was all going to be down hill from here, until we hit Hong Kong (whenever that may be). But we also anticipated that there wouldn't be a whole lot to see so you win some, you lose some. It was also why we weren't staying for long - accommodation is not cheap!
The Merlion at Marina Bay, Singapore
We are embarking on a trip of a lifetime, one that has been in the back of our minds for a few years now! A quit his job, I told my job “see you later”, our rental agreement ended, we got rid of basically all our furniture and are now ready to spend the better part of a year on the road. Living simply, living out of our backpacks.
