Day 1 of Tasmania 2022 trip
Tasmania, that island state of Australia at the bottom of the World, I’m finally visiting you! Domestic trips are not my usual but with COVID-19 still languishing around the world, we thought we would play it safe and holiday closer to home. This would be our first trip since 2019, which is quite a break for us but we shouldn’t complain, 2019 was a huge holiday that I will forever be grateful for.
Asia 2019 trip
No two railway stations in China looked the same! Here, I have put together photos of all the railway stations we visited. You will have to forgive the quality of some of these photos, as most were taken with a mobile phone. Some where taken whilst in a car. Unfortunately this is not a complete list of all the stations we visited. Some we simply didn’t take photos of (time constraints I suppose) and some we never stepped out of as we simply transfered from the train station to the metro below.
Day 118 of Asia 2019 trip / Day 20 in China
We spent the day exploring Fenghuang, this time during the day, before heading to Hunan’s most famous attraction, Wulingyuan.
Day 117 of Asia 2019 trip / Day 19 in China
Time to move on from Zhenyuan and Guizhou province. It has been lovely but we’re off to Fenghuang 鳳凰 (literally: Pheonix) in Hunan province. I do not have many happy memories of its capital, Changsha, and look forward to never visiting again. I braced myself for future encounters with rude people.
Day 116 of Asia 2019 trip / Day 18 in China
Seeing as there was no Dragon boat racing we just were left with exploring the town. We took the opportunity to bypass “official” ways to get to get a viewpoint (not the first time in China on this trip!)
Day 115 of Asia 2019 trip / Day 17 in China
Zhenyuan 鎮遠 ancient water town, supposedly with 2000 years of history, was yet another destination I had found whilst on the road. It had been years, decades since I had seen dragon boat racing in person. And when I found out that the dragon boat festival was coming up on 7th June (i.e. the 5th day of the 5th month on the lunar calendar) AND that Zhengyuan was a famous place to view the sport, I declared to A that we HAD to go.
Day 114 of Asia 2019 trip / Day 16 in China
Guiyang 貴陽, the capital of Guizhou Province, means “South Side of Gui Mountain”. I cannot confidently say why we stopped here but it was in between Anshun and our next destination of Zhenyuan, an ancient water town.
Day 113 of Asia 2019 trip / Day 15 in China
Huangguoshu (literally: Yellow Fruit Tree) Waterfall 黃果樹瀑布 is one of China’s largest waterfalls at 67m high and 83m wide. It is also known for having a pathway dug into the cliff face, meaning you are able to walk behind the curtain of water that comes gushing over the cliff. How exciting!
Day 112 of Asia 2019 trip / Day 14 in China
The title sounds kinda hippy, hey?
More Karsts were in store for us today at a small historic village called Yunshan 雲山 (literally: cloud mountain) near Anshun. I just think Karst scenary is so interesting and beautiful. Ippy cannot completely remember how she stumbled across this small village, but she does remember seeing drone photos taken from the village on Google Maps and being inspired to visit - sad but there’s the truth!
