Koh Lanta was next. I had read that this was a really chill place to be, and had less tourists. We were also going to do another snorkelling tour here, to see if the coral was any different.

We took the ferry to Koh Lanta. They required everyone to put their luggage at the front of the boat. The trip was ok and I did not feel sick.

At Lanta, there was a 10 baht tax. There were lots of tuk tuks and not a songthaew to be found. Lots of scooters as well but we weren’t going to hire one as we were not that confident driving one. So we were forced to take an expensive 150 baht (AUD 6.70) tuk tuk to our accommodation, Lanta Noblesse.

The trip down to the hotel was a bit interesting, there was one road that takes you north-south down the island and there’s no footpath whatsoever. It didn’t look like there was a lot going on here, just lots of greenery and spaced out buildings. That said, the road was mostly well maintained and smooth.

The hotel was simply a newly built two storey house split into rooms (with ensuites). This was behind a smaller house with a travel agency out front.

We had a late lunch somewhere nearby (forgot where, didn’t note it down) where we got a Pad See Ew. It was ok.

Then we decided to hit the beach to catch the sunset and to knock back a few.

Sand at Pra-Ae Beach (lots of shells, sand was not that fine, ouch)

We settled for San’s Sunset bar, where they had beach beds where you can lie down and have a drink whilst taking in the view of the ocean. It was also happy hour, where every drink was 120 baht and there was a promise of a fire show, lol. We had 4 cocktails between us and some chips (2560 THB / AUD 24.58).

The sunset was quite good and I was very content. Life was good.

I also spent some time frantically booking a snorkelling tour for the next day.

After sunset, there was a free fire twirling show on the beach with some firework twirling at the end. It was great entertainment.

We left at around 8:30pm to find dinner. We walked back to the main road, where it was a little dusty walking on the edge of the road with numerous tuk tuks and scooters passing by. I really wanted to go to a more low key authentic restaurant which seemed to be a difficult task. Finally, we settled for O.A. Restaurant, which was housed in a big metal shed on the main road. We ordered some more chicken flat rice noodles (not spicy), a Penang curry and a Cha yen. It was a little better than lunch, at least.

To get some shut eye at the accommodation, we walked the 1.7km up the main road. Well, we needed the exercise after all. Who knows how much sugar was in all those cocktails and cha yen?! On the way we stopped at a chemist to get some sea sickness pills for me.
